Coogirl Candy Sweet Heat Turkey Chili

Ingredients

Chili Base

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium carrot, finely diced
  • 1 celery stalk, finely diced

Seasoning And Liquids

  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes with juices
  • 1 can (15 ounces) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 ounces) pinto beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 cups low sodium chicken broth

  • 3 tablespoons Coogirl Candy syrup (from the jar), divided

To Serve

  • Shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese

Instructions

  1. Brown the turkey

    1. Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium high heat.
    2. Add ground turkey and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, for 5 to 7 minutes until no longer pink and lightly browned.
    3. If there is excess liquid, cook another minute or two to let it evaporate.

    1. Add diced onion, red bell pepper, carrot, and celery to the pot.

  5. Finish with Coogirl Candy syrup

    1. Taste the chili and adjust seasoning with additional salt or pepper if needed.
    2. Stir in the remaining 1 tablespoon Coogirl Candy syrup just before serving to brighten the flavor and add a glossy finish.
    3. If you prefer a looser chili, add a splash more broth and warm through.
  6. Serve

    1. Ladle hot chili into bowls.
    2. Top each bowl with shredded cheese, a spoonful of sour cream or Greek yogurt, and a sprinkle of green onions or cilantro.
    3. Serve with lime wedges and tortilla chips or cornbread on the side.
